The owners have lovingly and tastefully decorated throughout, whilst maintaining the character, charm and period features of the home.
Upon entering the home, to the left of the hall you have the fantastic lounge with front aspect views and a focal log burning stove.
Description
To the right you are greeted by the stunning sitting room again with its feature log burner, windows with shutters and wood flooring. The rooms have been enhanced to suit the style of home on offer.
The accommodation flows beautifully as the sitting room leads on to the kitchen whilst passing the utility room and cloakroom. The kitchen style truly captures the essence of country living and comprises of bespoke cabinetry, granite worktops and an Aga and a dining area. There is also a cellar located off the inner hallway
To the first floor there are three fantastic bedrooms of great proportions and a home office with views out to the countryside. The guest bedroom comprises of an en suite shower room with modern fittings and a walk in wardrobe. The family bathroom has been beautifully designed encompassing a separate shower cubicle and a roll top bath.
Externally the home has enclosed gardens offering side access from the front of the home. The rear garden has a patio area ideal for entertaining and is mostly laid to lawn with herbaceous borders. There is a further outbuilding in the rear garden which offers multi functional use. Parking is available to the front of the house set away from the road.
Sellers Story:
We bought Fern House as it was dramatically unique compared to other homes we viewed, and we fell in love with it instantly. We had looked at many properties in the Coventry area and none could match Fern House’s character or location.
We weren’t previously aware of the Tamworth Road and were impressed by the other beautiful homes along it, including some really big mansions! We also love that it’s 15mins to the city centre but feels hours away, surrounded by nature and fantastic country walks.
Over the years we’ve invested a lot, sympathetically restoring the property to its current state. We’ve really enjoyed this and really hope the next owners enjoy and cherish it as much as us. We never needed more space but the next owners could go up, down, and out if they wanted to extend and add value.
Danielle is a city-slicker and I’m a country boy so this house, our first together, was a compromise between the two and it’s worked perfectly!
The kitchen – this is certainly the beating heart of Fern House and more of a living room (to accompany the other two!). The aga keeps it’s cosy and warm at all times and the large kitchen table with cushioned bench. This is a real family room and is often a hive of activity.
It’s absolutely full of character, the previous owner having made the furniture and units out of the old floorboards. These, along with the hanging copper pots and other items, were left to us by them and we’ll also pass these to the new owners as they’re truly part of the house!
The sunlight basks through the windows in the mornings which is really lovely at this time of year when we’re having breakfast (and washing up!)
The most memorable experiences we’ve had at Fern House are all about really connecting to nature: whether it be going for a lunchtime or evening walk along one of the many routes direct from the house; or connecting with all the wildlife around the property, from lying on a picnic blanket on summer’s evenings and watching the bats fly overhead, or feeding the plethora of birds (including pheasants, ducks and woodpeckers), or heading over to the horse stables next door to wish the horses good night with our young daughter!
Last summer, an injured female pheasant convalesced in the garden and we fed her each day. We always eat outside when it’s warm enough and she was there each evening with us! Slowly her foot recovered and eventually she stopped coming but it was fantastic to get so close to a bird we rarely see.
The location and connection to nature is a real benefit for us. We also love the space and the feel of Fern House, the beautiful big windows, the homely feel of the kitchen, the open fire and the lovely high ceilings make the house a pleasure to live in.
We’re selling to move down to the New Forest. I grew up there and my childhood was spent either at the beach or in the forest, and I want the same for my daughter. My parents still live there and it will also be great to spend more time with them and help them in their retirement.
Fern House has helped us realise how important nature is to us and influenced the decision to move back down south. We’ll not be short of nature in the New Forest (hopefully!) but will be hard pushed to get it as conveniently from the house and also will all the benefits of being close to a major city (uber, Deliveroo, superfast broadband etc!)
Fern House is estimated to be built in the 1840s and we have always felt strongly that it must be preserved and cared for. We genuinely love the house, always will, and really hope the next owners feel the same.
